Minister of Public Works Calls on Car Owners to Have Their Vehicles Inspected for Road Safety

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Senior Minister Sun Chanthol, has called on car owners who have not yet had their cars inspected to go and do so.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Phsar Dei Huy Vehicle Technical Inspection Center on Tuesday morning, 20 December, Senior Minister Sun Chanthol stated that the construction of more inspection centers will help people get their vehicles inspected on time. Meanwhile, he said that as today, there are more than 170,000 cars whose inspection licenses have expired and have not yet been reinspected.

The Senior Minister requested people who have uninspected vehicles to bring them to a technical inspection center as soon as possible to avoid being fined. Vehicles that have not been inspected will be fined twice if caught by a police officer: once at the scene by the police officer, and once again upon arrival at the vehicle inspection center.

The Minister of Public Works added that new (family) cars require inspection every four years, while old cars require inspection every two years, and trucks require inspection at least once a year. For those vehicles whose inspection licences have expired, small or light vehicles face a fine of 500 riel per day of non-inspection, while heavy or large trucks face a fine of 2,000 riel per day.

Senior Minister Sun Chanthol emphasized that importance of regular inspection of vehicles in accordance with the set regulations, in order to ensure the safety of vehicles on the road, reduce the number of accidents and contribute to the preservation of the environment.
